The Economics of Citizenship: A Cross-Country Analysis
This workshop will address the economics of naturalization world-wide by focusing on the following two fundamental questions: What are the individual socio-economic determinants that affect the immigrant’s decision to ascend to citizenship at various stages in their lifetime? Do immigrants economically gain in the labour market from their ascension to citizenship?

Successes and Challenges of Second Language Learners in Canada
Language is an important contributor to integration, but the success of second language learners is generally poor. The presenters explore issues such as immigrant drop-out rates, a lack of interest in Canadian-born students for learning a second language, and immigrants’ workplace communication skills. Suggestions for instructional and policy changes are made.
