outcomes. Under the direction of Louis Grignon, HRDC has formed a
research group on immigrant integration issues. Three staff will be
responsible for connecting HRDC with the Metropolis Project: Jean
Lock Kunz, Samuel Laryea, and Eden Thompson. The group will work
closely with the four Metropolis centres of excellence as well as

In its 2000 budget, the Canadian government provided $900 million
to support the establishment of 2000 Canada Research Chairs in
universities across the country by 2004-05. More information on this
innovative program which intends to build a critical mass of
world-class researchers who will help Canadian universities achieve
research excellence and encourage leading researchers to stay in
Canada is available at http://www.sshrc.ca.
The Ontario Association of Youth Employment Centres (OAYEC)
research project has completed its report on the experiences of
self-employed youth with businesses based in the information
technology sector. Human Resources Development Canada funded the
project and a team of youth researchers at the OAYEC conducted the

Metropolis is developing a web-enabled registry of undergraduate,
graduate and post-graduate students involved in research at a
Metropolis Centre for Excellence (Canada). Students will have to
register their skills, professional and academic interests and work
or research-related intentions. The registry should help students
and senior researchers by providing opportunities for students
participating in their research projects to secure temporary or
long-term placements within academia, government or industry.
